PHOTOGRAPHERS | Democratic Republic of Congo

In addition to the my previous post, Condition: Critical — Voices From the War in Eastern Congo, I wanted to include some other photographers apart from Cédric Gerbehaye/Agence Vu that have focused on the conflict in the DRC. The following is just a few:

Marcus Bleasdale/VII who has also published a book on his work, One Hundred Years of Darkness as well as a very powerful multimedia piece, Rape of a Nation.

Gary Knight/VII

Photographers from VII photo also collaborated on a project, Democratic Republic of Congo: Forgotten War, which resulted in a traveling exhibition as well as a multimedia piece.

Brent Stirton

In my search I also came across this blog that touched up on some very valid ethical issues.

I'll be adding more so check back...

CAMPAIGN | Condition: Critical — Voices From the War in Eastern Congo

MSF has put together this very powerful documentary - the personal voices of survivors fuse with the photographs of Cédric Gerbehaye/Agence Vu with such eloquence and dignity. I highly recommend watching this and passing it along...

"Hundreds of thousands of people are on the run, fleeing a war that rages in eastern Congo, in the provinces of North and South Kivu. They are frightened. Many are sick or wounded. Others have been harassed or raped, or have had everything they own stolen. The people of the Kivus are in a critical condition. The destiny of everyone in this region is shaped by the war. The story of their struggle to survive needs to be told.

Starting November 20, 2008, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) will help the people of the Kivus speak out through this web site."

TIPS+TRICKS | Michael Kamber: Advice for Young Photographers

While browsing through Daniel Cuthbert's blog (another great recent find), I stumbled across this post with such great pleasure that I had to pass it along: Michael Kamber, an incredible photojournalist, posted an in-depth text on Lightstalkers, Advice for Young Photographers. It's truly a great read for those starting out - "If you’re afraid of rejection, find another line of work"...

SPOTLIGHT | Francesco Zizola/Noor

I love this image by Francesco Zizola/Noor, from the story Calabria Ndrangheta about organized crime in Italy. Although every image in this set demands attention I find that my eyes linger over this particular one for longer than usual.
